Coronavirus and market disruption

02 March 2020

Following a tumultuous week in markets, here are some of the key market insights from Goodbody CIO, Bernard Swords:

  • Financial markets continue to be gripped by coronavirus fears. Despite the news flow, the data around the impact of the virus supports the contention of a short, sharp reduction in activity only. Accordingly, we are increasing our exposure to equities in this pull-back, focusing on quality and defensive growth stories.
  • We detailed this Goodbody house view in last week’s CIO memo (see link here).
  • Since last week, we have seen a more formal response from central banks which supports our view and Bernard discusses these in this week’s video.
