Issues facing company boards in 2022

Written by Charlotte Craigie, Director of Corporate Broking

12 May 2022

AGM season is under way – and every year, it provides an opportunity for investors to hold management to account on a broad set of issues.

Recently, Charlotte Craigie, Director of Corporate Broking at Goodbody, sat down with Linda Hickey, a Non-Executive Director for a number of global companies including Kingspan, Greencore and Cairn Homes, to discuss the key issues facing boards during this year’s AGM season.

Linda highlights two key issues: remuneration and sustainability. “I think it is a real positive step that people are now focusing in on sustainability, climate plans and companies have to be very specific about what they are doing in that area,” she said.

Meanwhile, on the topic of diversity, Linda reminds us that “you have to see it to be it”. “In Kingspan, for example, more than 30% of our graduate recruits were female in 2021 and about 27/28% of the CEO’s leadership team is now female as well – and for those young female recruits, they can see it at the top,” Linda added.
